| In 1973, Travis wrote a
treatment for a screenplay to be based on “End of Summer” and placed the
property with Beaux Arts Productions. A romantic drama, in
addition to the title song, it featured poems and songs from his coffee
house days.
At a party in a house at the top of Nichol's Canyon, Travis played the title song and Gerard Alcan, then editing “The Second Gun,” was deeply moved by the music and wanted to use it in his film. “It exactly captured the tragic feeling of that time, the sense of irretrievable loss,” Gerard said. “It was not what I had intended,” says Travis, “but I did it, without the lyrics and vocal, and played a few 'zingers,' which was all the film needed.” |
